Design and multiplierless implementation of two-channel biorthogonal IIR filter banks with low system delay

An efficient method for the design of low-delay two-channel, perfect reconstruction IIR filter banks is proposed. The design problem is formulated in terms of minimax designs of a general stable IIR filter that can be obtained using semidefinite programming and an FIR filter that can be obtained using the Remez exchange algorithm. On the design and implementation of a high definition multi-view intelligent video surveillance system

This paper proposes a distributed architecture for high definition (HD) multi-view video surveillance system. It adopts a modular design where multiple intelligent Internet Protocol (IP)-based video surveillance cameras are connected to a local video server. Each server is equipped with storage and optional graphics processing units (GPUs) for supporting high-level video analytics and processing algorithms such as real-time decoding and tracking for the video captured. The servers are connected to the IP network for supporting distributed processing and remote data access. The DSP-based surveillance camera is equipped with realtime algorithms for streaming compressed videos to the server and performing simple video analytics functions. We also developed video analytics algorithms for security monitoring. Both publicly available data set and real video data that are captured under indoor and outdoor scenarios are used to validate our algorithms. Experimental results show that our distributed system can support real-time video applications with high definition resolution.published_or_final_versio

Deformation and stress of a composite-metal assembly

Compliant structures, e.g. automobile body panel and airplane wing box are widely used. A compliant structure consists of one or more flexible parts, and these parts share the mating features among them. Because of process-induced deformation and part-to-part variations, external forces are applied during the assembly process and the parts are deformed. As a result, the final assembly is pre-stressed and its geometrical shape may deviate from the designed shape. Therefore, the assembly variation and residual stress need to be analysed in order to evaluate the structure performance. In this study, a new approach based on response surface methodology is developed. A number of organised virtual experiments are conducted with the aid of finite element analysis and regression models are fitted to the resulting data. These regression models relate part variations to assembly variation and residual stress. Monte Carlo simulation can be conveniently done using these simple regression models. The effectiveness of this method was illustrated using a composite–metal assembly. It is shown that the method presented in this paper provides a practical and reliable solution to the analysis of compliant structures

Optimal packetisation of MPEG-4 using RTP over mobile networks

The introduction of third-generation wireless networks should result in real-time mobile video communications becoming a reality. Delivery of such video is likely to be facilitated by the realtime transport protocol (RTP). Careful packetisation of the video data is necessary to ensure the optimal trade-off between channel utilisation and error robustness. Theoretical analyses for two basic schemes of MPEG-4 data encapsulation within RTP packets are presented. Simulations over a GPRS (general packet radio service) network are used to validate the analysis of the most efficient scheme. Finally, a motion adaptive system for deriving MPEG-4 video packet sizes is presented. Further simulations demonstrate the benefits of the adaptive system

Isolation and characteristic of an aerobic denitrifier with high nitrogen removal efficiency

Paracoccus denitrificans DL-23, isolated from aerobic domesticated activated sludge, was demonstrated to have high ability of denitrification and heterotrophic nitrification under aerobic condition. After optimization (succinate, COD/N 10, 37°C, 160 rpm), DL-23 removed 420 and 860 mg/l NO3--N within 36 to 60 h of growth, respectively. DL-23 also removed 380 mg/l NH4+-N within 24 h with ammonia as nitrogen source. The maximum removal rate was 30.3 mg/l·h. Meanwhile, DL-23 exhibited aerobic nitrite reduction ability with 658 mg/l NO2--N within 48 h.Key words: Aerobic denitrification, heterotrophic nitrification, nitrogen removal, Paracoccus denitrificans

A systematic review and meta-analyses of pregnancy and fetal outcomes in women with multiple sclerosis: a contribution from the IMI2 ConcePTION project.

Neurologists managing women with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) need information about the safety of disease modifying drugs (DMDs) during pregnancy. However, this knowledge is limited. The present study aims to summarize previous studies by performing a systematic review and meta-analyses. The terms "multiple sclerosis" combined with DMDs of interest and a broad profile for pregnancy terms were used to search Embase and Medline databases to identify relevant studies published from January 2000 to July 2019.1260 studies were identified and ten studies met our inclusion criteria. Pooled risk ratios (RR) of pregnancy and birth outcomes in pregnancies exposed to DMDs compared to those not exposed were calculated using a random effects model. For spontaneous abortion RR = 1.14, 95% CI 0.99-1.32, for preterm births RR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.72-1.21 and for major congenital malformations RR = 0.86, 95% CI 0.47-1.56. The most common major congenital malformations reported in MS patients exposed to MS drugs were atrial septal defect (ASD) (N = 4), polydactyly (N = 4) and club foot (N = 3), which are among the most prevalent birth defects observed in the general population. In conclusion, interferons, glatiramer acetate or natalizumab, do not appear to increase the risk for spontaneous abortions, pre-term birth or major congenital malformations. There were very few patients included that were exposed to fingolimod, azathioprine and rituximab; therefore, these results cannot be generalized across drugs. Future studies including internal comparators are needed to enable treating physicians and their patients to decide on the best treatment options
